Title: I'm sick
Post by: Courtenay1826 on February 25, 2007, 10:52:48 PM
:( I caught the respitory bronchial virus going around from Karol and Myke, despite the antibiotics that I am on.  I've been told that if I start to run a fever to go to the ER immediately.  My husband has the kids over to his mothers for today and tonight so I can get some rest and sleep this off (hopefully).  I guess if I get a fever it means my kidneys and liver aren't able to fight it.  As it is, it's going to have to "run the full course" of the virus, the antibiotics will only help me not to get any bacterial side effects like an ear infection (which both my kids got and are on antibiotics for) and a sinus infection, which I already have because of the nasty snot!

UGH!

oh nooooooooooooo!!!!!

I get many sinus infections too and my colds last long time and I still have my splee...

If you don't feel icky about squirting stuff up your nose that comes out the other way, I swear by Ayr Saline rinse which you can find at most pharmacies. Be careful to blow your nose gently though so you don't push the infection into your ears. You want to buy the actual wash kit and not the spray. You pour warm water in and a saline packet and push the bottle. It squirts water up your nose which comes out the other nostril (i love body physics).

It has saved my life, especially flying with sinus problems which really sucks.

I hope you kick this infection soon!

Courtenay, I hope you can get rid of this infection quickly and feel better soon.  Please keep a watchful eye on it, as your spleen is now non-existent.  Take that advice that you were given and get to the ER immediately if you spike a fever.  Please let us know how you are doing.   :hugfriend

Thanks for the replies gals...Third day into this thing and still stuffed up as all getout.  I'm running my usual temperature (96.4-97) and sometimes I go up to 98 or 99...But not that magical (evil?) 100.3, thank God.

My cough is diminishing as the post nasal drip reduces...I'm using the Ayr saline to drain the stuffiness and trying to sleep as much as I can.

Thanks for all your concern...It really helps when I'm feeling so...blah.

The most commonly uttered phrased by thal minors is "I am sick and tired or being sick and tired." We should print-shirts...I am glad you found that Ayr. They took my bottle at the airport even though it was EMPTY and I was so mad and now I have to go re-buy the whole kit. Argh. I woke up last night in the middle of the night sneezing and drowning in my own snot (yuck-yes). Must have had an allergic reaction in my sleep. And I was so upset I didn't have it.

Are you allowed to take any supplements to help boost your immune system now that you have no spleen and are on antibiotics?

Btw, you and baby look SOOOOOOOOOOOO cute!

I'm so glad you're feeling at least a little better.  I'm sorry that you are still feeling fatigued and somewhat symptomatic.  Hopefully that will subside soon.  Get as much rest as you can, and drink lots of fluids. :hugfriend

The Flu is going around over here, and I'm starting to feel like I'm getting sick myself. I hate being sick, so I totally feel for you.  :(

Oh no, Danielle! And you can't take Vitamin C!  :-\

Can you take TamiFlu? It helps even up to two days after the symptoms begin to show.  My PCP said to try those supplements for cold remedies...Whatever they're called...they are made by a teacher.  I looked at the label and it CHOCK full of vitamin C! I said..I take my maximum in my Repliva, I can't take more!

Grr.  I sooo hope you just have the aches from the terrible cold weather going on around NY.  :hugfriend

Thanks, Courtenay.  :hugfriend  I hope it's just aches from the cold weather as well.   :(

I can take TamiFlu, but my doctor won't give it to me unless he is positive that I have the Flu, so I'll have to wait it out.  I hate that I am limited on Vitamin C, but it probably wouldn't help me much with my extremely low hemoglobin anyway.  I'm already susceptible to these kinds of things.   :sadyup

If I do get sick, I hope that it's just a little cold and not the Flu.  When I get the Flu, I feel like I'm dying.  :sigh

My family and I get these very easily as well but so far any meds that the docs give seem to work for now! Hope all gets better or is already better for you! As for the sinus infections, I know a lot of thal people who have that same problem. It can be a pain, but it is something that I deal with with my daughters more.
