Christine,
We will all be thinking of you and Lauryn tomorrow. You have the strength inside of you to come out on top of this situation, and make it the best experience it can be for Lauryn. It won't be easy, but I know you can do it, because you are doing it for Lauryn. We seem to find incredible inner strength when we are doing things for our children. Let us know how it goes. We love you, Jean

You guys are in my thoughts and prayers, Christine.  I hope everything goes smoothly and that you can remain calm.  Show your baby that there is nothing to worry about and that her mama will be there right next to her along the way, and that you will never leave her.   :hugfriend

hi everyone...

Well, as you all know, today was "The Day". It was by far the most difficult situation I have ever been in (to date).
Lauryns hgb was 7.6, and the Md gave us the option of putting the transX off for another week or two. My husband was all for it, but I knew she was not looking good and her eating habits were "failing" horribly. We  decided to go through with it. Knowing my child the way i do, I knew I had to keep her from the danger zone, plus she was starting to look "unhealthy"
The nurses poked Lauryn 5 times and could not find any veins in her limbs or feet. So, they had to resort to her head. (she looked like a little wounded soldier)  :(

It was heartwrenching. I don't know who cried more...Lauryn or myself. The nurses were very nice and patient with us. Thank GOD.
She recieved 150 cc's of O+ positive blood. The whole process from beginning to end was 6 hours. The transX alone was 2. she had no fever or no reaction to the blood. i am thankful for that.
i still made a point to mention a port is not an option.

I am taking her back for a check up on April 16th (before we go to the conference in CA.). The Md said she shouldnt need a transX until April 30. I believe that is why he gave her 150 cc's. To make it last a little longer? That is what one of the nurses said, anyway.
The md said her spleen was 2 1/2 cm and after the tx, it will shrink again. he said her low level (base point) is 7.6. she will never get to that again. her bones will never be affected. she will be healthy.

Let me just say after the crappy day we had, it was all worth it so to speak because.....LAURYNS SKIN IN SO BRIGHT RED AND PINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She did not sleep all day! not even when we got home at 5 pm. She just fell asleep after all of this about an hour ago 10 pm.

She is more vocal, her nails look freshly polished pink, her lips look like she had just finished eating a cherry popsicle.

I must say seeing her look so beautiful and HEALTHY made all of today and the transfusions to come, worth it. I am so thrilled to have my baby back.

i love you all so much and I thank you for all of your guidance and prayers. I do not know what I would have done without you!

Hi Christine,

Apart from the 5X needle poke, It's good to hear that Lauryn is doing great.

It was very brave of you to go for the Tx even though you had the opportunity to postpone it. "Way to go, Tiger Mom!"

I hope that the future sessions won't be as difficult as this one and I hope that you will be stronger even more.

Now, you can relax for about a month or so and have a good time with your family.

Lots of Love to Lauryn :wub :hugfriend :love

Take care, Peace!

Christine , Glad to hear that Lauryn's transfusion went well and she is doing great. You are a brave, caring mom.  :clap

We are going for my daughter's transfusion tomorrow. My wife still can't cope with it yet. She is very sad on the day of the transfusion. Hoping that time will make her stronger.

Yea Christine! You did it. Now the fear of the unknown is gone, and that will hope you with the next one. Sounds like Lauryn did great, and when you see that pink color, it just shows you how much better the inside of her body is working.  :high5  You and Lauryn are quite a team. Love, Jean

Oh Christine, I'm so very glad to hear that Lauryn's transfusion went well!  I'm so relieved to hear that!  :happydance

Isn't it wonderful to see how much better she looks and feels with a transfusion?  I'm very happy to know that you got through it, and can see the immediate positive effects on her.   :hugfriend
