Title: Thyroid gland
Post by: Manal on August 14, 2007, 12:52:10 PM
Hi

I find that many people in my family ( 3 cousins ) have problems with the thyroid glands ( protrusion in the eyes, gaining weight,....), soi want to check is this related to thal trait/minor  as it runs in the family or it is just something coincidence. Actually, one of the cousins is thal minor but the other two didn't test yet for thal

Hi Manal,
My nephew has thal minor and he has to take thyroid medication. I think I've heard that thals may be more likely to have thyroid problems. That's all I know! Jean

My mom & I are both thal minor - and we both have hypothyroid - we were treated with synthroid promptly and did not have any of the negative effects.  I will have to keep an eye on my daughter (even though she is not thal minor).
