Title: Desferal left in the trunk
Post by: Canadian_Family on September 08, 2007, 11:27:06 PM
Hello,

I picked up my daughter's desferal from the hospital on August 22, 2007 and somehow one pack of desferal containing 10 vials was left in my car trunk. Today I found the pack but reluctant to use it, as it says the vials should be stored less than 25 degree centigrade. I have been driving my car since August 22 and I am sure the temperature was above 25 C during day time for the last few days. Question is should I use the vials or discard them. Your answer will help.

Thanks

I can't find anything official on the effect of heat on desferal but I have talked to people in the past who routinely store desferal at above the suggested temperature for long periods and have not noticed any reduction in the effect. However, Ambareen told me that in the extreme temperatures in Dubai, that it does weaken the effectiveness.

I would think with the relatively short period it was exposed to higher temps that it would still maintain its effectiveness.

Thanks for the reply Andy. I am going to use that packet for good.
