 :welcomewagon  Asila!!!!!!

Shilpa and I met Asila on our trip to Maldives for International Thalassemia Day. Since then, Asila has undergone a successful bone marrow transplant.

I am really happy to hear a success story and I am asking Asila to give us her whole story.  :biggrin

I really hope I can get a chance to return to Maldives but travel is so expensive these days, it makes almost anything impossible for me now. Some of the kids are going to ask SHE to bring us back again and I hope that SHE will consider it. It means a lot more than some people realize that we came to visit and gave our support to the thals there. I still talk to so many Maldivians regularly and they all want to see us again, so SHE, please listen up.

hi,this is my story..I was diagnosed as a case of thalassemia major at the age of 9 months .I received my first blood  tranfusion at the age of 19 months and had been on transfusion at an interval of once every 20-45 days since then with a pre-transfution hemoglobin of annual 8g%.i have received approximately 250 units of packed red cell transfutions.i was started of chelation therapy with desfarrel around the age of 2 years and had been on the same still along with kelfer tablets from 2005 onwards.as my younger sister was histocompatible the parents obted for bone marrow transplantation as curative therapy.the rist and benifits of BMT were discssed in details with my family..when i went to vellore cmc hospital on last year my serum ferritin level pre-transplant was 7400ng/ml/clinically i had 6cm's hepatomegaly at admission.liver biopsy was done and this showed grade 4 iron overload with server bridging febros and incomplete nodularuty(lucarelli-class 3)
Bone marrow transplant was performed on 17th october 2007.my donor was HLA matched sister.my family have 4 members my mum, dad  me n my younger sister.i was lucky because she is the only one and i match to her...  When i was dischaged  my hemaglobin was 10.1g and my platelet count was 62000/mm3.(Now my platelet is 91000/mm3.)
so this is some from my long story.if you have any question you all are wellcome.
