Hi Friends
I have a confusion about two drugs for Iron Chelation Asunra or Desirox.
1. Exjade has been released in India by Novartis as a marketing name of Asunra
2. Cipla is marketing the drug under the marketing name of Desirox in India
Some Doctor are say they are same but some Doctor prefer asunra.
both drugs have a price difference also very high.
Please tell me which is the best i will afford both medicines. i have price is no matter.

Hi,
You should go with Asunra. Though its said both are the same drugs, but Cipla hasn't done any trials like Novartis has.

-
Hi hamender,
YOu can choose any one of them since both of tem are same withsame formulation only diffrence is the price and cipla has been widely accepted asGMP co. providing the life saving drugs at affordable price don't go by name of company is my suggestion rest is the mental satisfaction of yours which should matter in choosing the drug ; if you do cchoose desiorex then get the prescription for 3mths since you get one box free with every three boxes purchase thereby cutting yur cost further

thanks for reply i am start asunra. can i take combination with Kelfer L1. please tell me
-
According to the doctors we met in Singapore conference, there are no trails on using them togather and even they seem not interested to do so as they thing it is not a good idea combining asunra(exjade) with Kelfer L1 because the side effects of both are within the same area and it is not recommended to put this high load on the body.

If you're starting with Asunra, then why do you need to take Kelfer too? Any specific reason of giving it in combination?
\peace/
-
Hi hamendar ,
when i asked this question to my doctor she said NO to this combination ... i think reasons that sahil, Manal and other members provided are enough ...

Thanx to all who reply me...........Nice and Friend Zaini
I am from Muscat... (Oman)
but I have friends in Pakistan so it is easy for me to get it from there....
can I know the places where I can find the drug in Krachi ? and the prices please....
Thanks for all your help.....
-
Hi Zizo,
I am not sure from where you can get this med,but i think looking for the company Novartis it self must be helpful,as they are the manufacturers and providers of this med,we go to Aga khan hospital for transfusion,so if we need Asunra we'll have to ask our doc,if you don't find any link, inform me,i'll ask my doctor when we go for next transfusion.
You are warmly welcome :hugfriend.
Zaini.

Here it's Exjade.
I dont tell you how much my pills costs. It made so angry. I hope the economic problems have a good effect on the price of Exjade.
Ok, with 2 pills of 125mg you can buy a new cd.
:mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :-\ :(

Hi Zizo,
I'll definoitely ask my doctor, but you'll have to wait till mid of november coz that's when my daughter will go for transfusion.
Dore,
Exjade is marketed by the name of Asunra here, and it's price is lower then exjade, accordin g to Novartis they are doing a favour for third world countries, but to tell you the truth it's still not affordable for so many people.
Zaini.

I agree with Zaini, that is why I contacted Cipla's representative in Pakistan to get me Desirox, and my brother is using Desirox from 1 month, no side effect (Thank God) Alhamdulillah!!
It's not as expensive as Asunra/Exjade is!!!!!!!
-
Ayesha,
I am glad that your brother is doing well with the Desirox,
Sharmin
-
Zaini, that's on of the reasons why I am so angry about it. I always thought deferiprone was expensive, but it wasn't when. When I started taking deferiprone nobody made it on big scale, We bought it by a big building trade... Well, that's ofcourse not true. i probably was out of order due.
A project. Just by a pharmacy. i have no idea why I use those words :s I must have veen affected by "law fevers" hahah!
Desirox is deferiprone?
Deferirpone let me eat day and night. The feeling of hungry was always with me. :(
-
Hi Ayesha ,
its great to hear that, Desirox Suited Salman and Salman have no Side-Effects to this Oral Chelator,
Realy Happy to hear about Salman , ... Pay Best Regards to him on my behalf ...
@ Dore
Yeah , Exjade/Asunra both are Expansive and its not in affordable for many thal patients , about Deferiprone it was a little expansive here a few onths ago but they reduced the price to half ,i dont how and why ... :dunno .. yeah me too feel hungry . i think it could be bcoze of Deferiprone ...
Best Regards

Dore,
Desirox is not defriprone,it's another version of Exjade/Asunra,made by an indian company.
Zaini.

hi buddies ,
people who think that Asunra/Exjade is better than Ciple's Desirox beczoe Cipla have no trials and trials data about Desirox ,. i want to raise a question that if Desirox is not the same Copy of Exjade/Asunra then how can Novartis file a petition and took Cipla to the Court for Copying their ( novartis's) drug ???.. they cant if that ( cipla's desirox ) is not the same drug .. if that is same then they eligible to file the petition, as they did ... soo i think that Desirox is the same drug and only name of drug and company name is changed ... Wat do you think ???... and if it is same then i would like to quote andy's post ,

OsveralĀ® is the equivalent of Exjade and has gone through physicochemical tests and shows equality with Exjade. (Once a drug is introduced, generic equivalents do not have to undergo the same testing on patients as the original drug, but rather, chemical equality is shown. Patients can expect the same results once chemical equality has been proven). Osveral is an oral chelator and is taken in the same dosages as Exjade in the same manner.
Have your say buddies i m waiting ...

As long as physiochemical equality is shown, they are the same drug. What may vary are things like fillers etc. that hold the tabs together, but this would not affect the efficacy of the drugs.

Dear All friends
I think Desirox,is not much better than asunra. i realize some ppl. take Desirox, but their iron level is so high and their apprentice look is also changed .
My doctor stopped my asunra and told me Kalfer and desferol is the best drug if tolerate (Suit)
so my all friends please check your iron level and Serum Criatinin regularly if you take Desirox or Asunra
thanks
hamendra
-
Hamendra,
Your doctor is right. There is currently no better chelation method than the combination of desferal and kelfer (Ferriprox elsewhere). No chelation method offers better chelation and protection from iron, as kelfer has a protective effect on the heart. Asunra, Exjade and Desirox are all the same med and are more suitable for maintenance of low ferritin levels than reducing iron ferritin. These Exjade drugs can reduce ferritin but high doses are required for those with a serious iron load.

how can that b possible ? :huh how many units u had transfused? that variation must shows one of ur test results were done in fever etc ... i wonder really
-
Its may be happend b'couse i direct use desirox from disfarol.I take transfution 22 day after.once a month {600 ml } and take desirox 4 month continuesly.I donot know how it happend, but my result say its happend
Bappy
-
It is possible that the ferritin levels were affected by the reaction that Bappy had to the transfusion one month. He had a pretty severe reaction, so it is likely it affected the serum ferritin.
-
Deferasirox would shortly be makited by another company in pakistan as well(not Indian Brand of Cipla) I believe it would be economical as well as available in all the three strengths availble in the International market.
Lets see when it is launched and what would be the response from the doctors.

Great work Rishi! It often does take some time to see the effects of the Exjade drugs, but most patients see very good results by the second year of use.

Congratulations Rishi!! Keep the good work up!!!
