Title: UPDATE ON LAURYN
Post by: Christine Mary on September 06, 2006, 05:15:32 PM
HEY GUYS,

WOULD YOU BELIEVE 1/2 HOUR BEFORE HER DR APPT.TODAY THE DRS OFFICE CALLED TO RESCHEDULE FOR NEXT MONDAY BECAUSE WHEN THEY DREW HER BLOOD LAST WEEK,THEY DIDNT GET ENOUGH OF A SAMPLE???? AS IF WAITING 2 WEEKS FOR RESULTS WASNT PAINFUL ENOUGH. :banghead WHY WOULD HER DR CALL ME THE A.M. OF HER APPT. AND NOT EARLIER? WE HAD TO TAKE THE POOR THING FOR ANOTHER BLOOD DRAW A LITTLE WHILE AGO :-\ :-\. FROM WHAT I RECALL, THEY TOOK ABOUT 1CC'S WORTH OF BLOOD FOR TESTING. IS THAT TOO LITTLE AMOUNT? IF 1 CC IS TOO LITTLE, THEN WHY DID HER PEDI. CALL ME AFTER HER NEWBORN SCREENING TO TELL ME SHE HAD THAL MAJOR? I THINK THEY ONLY TOOK VERY LITTLE BLOOD FOR THAT TEST?  :huh IM SO DISSAPOINTED, BECAUSE SOMEONE ROYALLY MESSED UP, WHETHER IT WAS HER HEMO. OR THE LAB. I SHOULDVE BEEN NOTIFIED EARLIER, DONT YA THINK??? ??? NOW I HAVE TO WAIT 5 MORE DAYS TO GET THE RESULTS. THE EMOTIONAL ANGUISH OF BACK/FORTH IS TAKING A TOLL.

 :hissyfit

THANKS FOR LISTENING,

CHRISTINE

WOW! Do the doctors have any idea what anguish they put people through? I think the intital diagnosis is premature considering all things. A premature baby has 100% fetal Hb, and a test of fetal Hb at birth is not conclusive. The doctors should  :mouthshut until they have something definite to say. It does no one any good to give a premature diagnosis.

Please try to relax as hard as that may be and in the meantime enjoy that beautiful baby.  :biggrin

Oh dear.... That is really annoying! :tantrum I guess the doctors want to show off their efficiency that "look we are so fast and well aware of things" In reality they don't have the slightest clue that should jump to conclusion. The human body is so complex and unpredictable. You just can't tell for sure by just looking at preliminary tests or observation.

:mad Why do these doctors get away with their ignorance?!?!?

Hi sajid.
Doctors  get away with it because, they were told that they are god :biggrin by thier professor on thier first day of medical school and they continue to believe so.they also believe that they are in the elite class and they do no wrong. There are very few good doctors left and they are the one which is known to be always, fully booked.

Hello Chrissy!

I am sorry to hear that you are having so much difficulty getting a diagnosis for your baby.  Do try and relax and enjoy her, because if you are stressed she will pick this up.  She looks so gorgeous in that photo you posted!

Unfortunately doctors are only human and cannot know everything.  You are doing the best that you can in obtaining information from as many sources as possible.  Look to your doctor for advice and guidance, but seek as much other information as you can.  I think you will find a lot of help amongst the people in this community.  I hope that you get a speedy answer and I hope that Lauryn brings you much joy, no matter what the answer is!

SalD.
