Title: foods with low or no iron what do you eat?
Post by: sighvang on October 06, 2011, 09:56:47 PM
Hello everyone

Im just looking to get a better idea of foods with little or no iron. My hubby is thal intermedia and it seems were always eating the same foods, so I kinda wanted to see what everyone does for dinner, lunch snacking ete whatever the case may be. I read a lot of nutritional info I alway try to stay below 10% daily value 5% and none mostly. And how do you guys feel about chicken? I know chicken doesn't have as much iron as pork and beef but how many times a week would you recommend it? Or do you eat it?

Also what are some certain foods that you guys eat? I'm just looking for ideas....any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone

Hi,

I have B-Thal Major and I have been on a low iron diet for years and I am also on a low fat diet. What I mostly eat is...

Meats:
Chicken,Turkey & fish
(I do however eat some red meats, but not a whole lot and I eat some some pork, but I'm not a big fan of pork)

Vegetables:
Green beans, potatoes, carrots & corn (be careful with the amount of corn, it has high in iron)
(Turnips and radishes have low iron, but I don't eat them; he should however stay away from green leafy vegetables, because they are very high in iron )

Fruits:
apples, peaches, pares, grapes, pineapple, mandarin oranges, strawberries, blueberries, cantaloupe
(fresh fruits are the best for people with iron issues, the fruits that are considered the lowest in iron are blueberries, honeydew melon & apples)

Dairy
cheese & yogurt (these are very low in iron)

Other:
white rice (extremely low in iron)
breads & cereals (watch how much you eat of bread)

Foods that your husband should stay away from are....

Raisins
Red Meat
Broccoli
Spinach
Asparagus
Fig
Green Peas
Dates
Soybeans
Cashews
Egg
Tofu
Fenugreek
Cream of Wheat
Pumpkin Seeds
