I have thalassemia alpha minor and my wife thalassemia beta minor, I want to get my son tested and also getting some advice regarding having a second child. My first child is 6 years old now, he seems well but easily fatigue comparing to children his age. I am from Malaysia but currently working in Qatar, it will be great if anyone can advise doctors that are well verse in thalassemia in either of this region.
Thank you.

Do you know if the alpha thal is caused by deletions or by mutations? This is very important in terms of whatever advice is issued.

sorry i have no clue, i have been searching for Thalassemia expert in Malaysia and Qatar but cant find one.
is there any specific test which i can take in normal blood lab, which can help me & family to determine our thalassemia ?

With alpha thal, only a DNA test will tell you what the type is.

any symptom to identify the different between deletions or by mutations alpha thal ?

Some alpha mutations, specifically the triplicated alpha gene, can cause symptoms, as there is a surplus of alpha globin produced, rather than a deficit. The deletions become more of an issue if beta thal is also present. Only DNA analysis can really sort it all out.
