HI Aneela,

Zainab is using combination therapy, and it's really usefull,i remember your iron was about 10000.start it  with out any doubt it will definitely help you InshAllah, you'll see difference in your ferritin level in a couple of months, not necessarily a big difference ,but there will be some.

Hello,

I am only on L1 and doing really well on it...My ferritin levels are no higher than 500... I have been on the combination for the first 6mths of starting it...Then my ferritin dropped dramatically and was taken off the desferal...I have been on just L1 for the last 1.5 yrs..

Hope this helps..

Take care

Smurfette's low ferritin level is the result of many years of chelation compliance. It's been many years of desferal for her and that included problems with an allergy to one brand of desferal. She did the work. She didn't make excuses to avoid chelation. She did it and she has become a great demonstration of what it means when it is said that thal is a manageable chronic condition.

Parents of younger thals should take heart in knowing that their kids are growing up with much better treatment than what was available when Smurfette was young. With proper care and compliance to all facets of treatment, today's young thals have tremendous potential for good lives. Thal is manageable but compliance with treatment is essential for this to happen.

All we are saying is give thals a chance.

I wish we can only use L1 for chelation,Zainab's ferritin checked last month was 1657,i want it to be below 1000,her hemo insists on doing combination therapy, i know she isn't wrong, but if her ferritin goes below 1000 i think we'll be able to drop desferal for a while,it will be a relief,we are working hard for it.

Andy,

I could not agree more with your post, we know the importance of chelation now after so many years of experience.
