I'm a thal major who had now a type 1 diabetes,  here in our country and most of the asian region, there are lots of alternative medicinal plants used to help controll diabetes.
I used to drink an herbal tea derive from the dried leaves of plant called "BANABA"  I used it as in tea form to help me controll my sugar level at an average one, surelly it works and I can testify that. But I had to stop it because I'm not sure if it also contains free iron co'z we know that geen leafy plants specially the bitter one contains iron, like the bitter gourd vegetable. This plant here in our country it is known to help in controlling blood sugar level and it contains iron, I'm afraid to continue using banaba tea because I don't know if it really contains IRON, the reason I stop using it before..Can anyone prove that this plant contains free iron?please respond...tnx
hmmm...judge me when we get to know each other

Hi Roland,

The following link contains the information about the micro-nutrients found in Banaba. It lists the element such as Zinc and Magnesium etc but no Iron.

I guess it doesn't contain considerable amount of Iron otherwise they would have stated it too. So I guess it should be safe enough to use in moderate quantities.

Check it out:

Take care, Peace!

Banaba has been studied as a possible therapy for diabetes.

From http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=15671695&dopt=Abstract

Quote
The glucose-6-phosphatase activity in kidney was significantly lower in both the MBE and banaba groups compared with the control group (P < .05), but there was no significant difference between the MBE (malted barley extract) and banaba groups.

IP6 has also been shown to have potential in lowering hemoglobin A1C, which is raised in diabetics.

All we are saying is give thals a chance.
