My new-to-me 12 year old daughter is 4' 9 inches and 85 pounds. Her medical care was severely lacking, but I thought her height was from the poor nutrition and the constant junk food diet she was receiving. I wonder if she will grow a little more now that her diet has changed and supplements are started?

Your intervention at this point will make a huge difference to your daughter's health. You can only wait and see if she grows taller, but more importantly will be what you can't see in terms of bone and organ health, and this is where proper nutrition will make a big difference. This will also be reflected in her mental abilities which will also benefit. A good diet and good nutrition makes a big difference for children in terms of their clarity of thought and their ability to understand and retain information.

The growth, height depends on many factors the prominent among them are the amount of iron deposits in the body and the organs responsible for growth. The age also counts and the proper nutrition outstands all other reasons as Andy said.

nutrition paves way for better mental ability and over all health ... but for height its not cuz the most starved ppl u see are the most tallest ... example african countries .... for a thalassemic , height depends upon the level of irondeposits...

I am 6'2" 185lbs. When I was younger I was the smallest child in my class for a long time. By 14yrs old I had a growth spurt and grew straight up. By 18yrs old I was the 2nd tallest in class and was still growing. My father is 5'11" and my mom is 5'9" or so. I never had any other treatment besides blood transfusions. I was almost put on chelation, but was able to reduce the iron in my system.

I agree with you all about it's not about the size of a person, but their character that makes them big.

Take care of yourselves.

Hi!

I'm 1,63 m. (I don't really know how much it is in feet) and 67kg.

I know I have to lose some weight but I've been in the same weight for the last 9 or 10 years and I feel fine.

kisses to you all,

Laura.
