donor blood and you
« on: August 14, 2008, 04:43:38 AM »
hello everyone..
i have a wierd question as usual..
is it possible, or has anyone ever thought of this..
that the person who is donating the blood, could have an effect on you..
for instance..
lets say the donor is high in stress or has anxiety, or lets say they are super hiper..or an alcoholic (unnoticed)..
could those things effect YOU?
would you end up being stressed out of nowhere, or have random bursts of anxiety, or act hiper one moment, but than drink yourself into an oblivion out of nowhere???
because, sometimes i feel that random acts come to me..
and i dont even know why i'm doing it!
and NOT to blame the donor or anything like that..
but i feel sometimes that its not all me..
that maybe these CONSTANT different donors are having an effect on my personality..
like i've probabaly taken over 1,000 different people's blood,
so could i ever take on thier traits?
hmmm
wierd.
i think of that sometimes
what do you guys think of this.

Have thought about it but have come to the conclusion that our donor's blood would affect me in a dietry way.
For example I am a diabetic and before the transfusion my bsl is @ 7, then during the afternoon it rises to @ 12.
My doctors and I can't help but think that if the donor has a sugary treat just before donating, then I would get some of the sugary treat.
This is not proven but studying my bsl after and before transfusions has us wondering.
The other ideas you have raised are plausible but I would think those are more likely to happen with organ transplants.
This is an excellent question that has me very curious in what the others think.

A few days ago, i read a book by Cecelia Ahern,it was a story about how a person donated blood ,it went to the person he didn't know, but when he saw her on the street he felt like he has some connection with her, and the girl (who as transfused his blood) felt the same way,she even got to see his memories in her dreams and they felt attracted to each other  :biggrin it was a wonderful book.

You are right Umair
our moods do change but can we say thats from the donor's blood?
I know that I get emotional before transfusions and thats because of my low haemoglobin

I asked my doctor about the increase in BSL after transfusion. She said that it would be unlikely for it to happen for the Packed RBCs as the Sugar is in the Plasma which is pretty much removed.
