fever and strawberry tongue - please help
« on: March 22, 2011, 02:31:29 AM »
Andy,

Lil A is sick for the 4th time since December.  He gets high fever - above 39degrees and then congestion - and ear infection.  Last time he became sick he was sick for several days and eventually ended up with strawberry tongue - very red almost fuchsia tongue - very smooth in appearance with strange bumps on it.  It took a few days for it to disappear.

This Friday he became lethargic, once again developed fever, extreme abdominal pain and high fever.  He seemed a little better this morning - having only cough and running nose - but he again woke up with a strawberry tongue.

I am quite concerned about why he is getting this symptom along with high fevers when he gets sick.  I have thought about Scarlett fever, Kawasaki disease and the like - and for that reason had my husband take him to the children's hospital to be looked at.  He doesn't have any other symptoms of Kawasaki - rashes or red eyes - but he certainly has the fever and red tongue.

Should this be concerning?

Thank you kindly Andy,

Sharmin

Thank you Zaini  :hugfriend
Andy,
He was swabbed on Saturday and we haven't heard anything
So I'm assuming it's negative.  He's in waiting room at Children's hospital.
He doesn't have swelling of hands or feet, red eyes or other symptoms.
Just fever and strawberry tongue for the second time since Feb 23rd.
I've heard that Kawasaki doesn't happen twice - but then I don't know what this could
Be??

Thanks again,
Sharmin

I have just received some devastating news and cannot pursue this right now. I did find these two links. Look at the pics and see.
