Results of my son hemoglobin electrophoresys

HI all,

I have posted this before but I do not know if someone looked at them this is why I am posting them again, these are the results of the hemoglobin electrophoresis:

Hemoglobine A: 56.7
Fetal Hemoglobine: .3
Hemoglobine A2: 4.9
Hemoglobine S: 38.1
Positive for sickle cells.

So according to these results he has both: Beta Talasemia Minor and Sicklemia!!

I found an article about two cases like mine in Uruguay, it seems they have been studying this mix of genes in Argentina, Uruguay and Brasil in which people from the Europe, East Asia and North Africa had lived together.

So at the end is not an easy case.

So I will like your suggetions for his diet!!! Thank you all for your support.

It appears to be sickle/beta+ thalassemia, which is not as severe as the beta° sickle combination. There is no speciific diet, but it is wise to follow a diet high in antioxidants, so fruits, veggies and beans (no broad or wide beans) are an essential part of that diet. I would suggest supplements of folic acid (most important), natural vitamin E (no synthetic) and B vitamins. For now, a multivitamin might contain sufficient B vitamins.

This combination of sickle cell and beta thalassemia is quite common, but the severe form is the beta° form, where you would see little to no HbA. Your child will never have the ongoing severe condition, but be aware that moving to high altitudes can set off a sickling crisis, so keep that in mind for the future.

All we are saying is give thals a chance.
