FerriScan validation

A significant validation study for FerriScan R2-MRI has just been published in Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. Multicenter validation of spin-density projection-assisted R2-MRI for the non-invasive measurement of liver iron concentration (Tim G. St Pierre, et al ) The full paper is available http://clients.weblink.com.au/clients/resonancehealth/article.asp?view=6641143

FerriScan is now being made available to patients in a number of countries that really need it, such as Taiwan, Vietnam and South Africa, which is very exciting. There should be more countries coming online very soon and I'll let you know as soon as FerriScan centres are set up there.

Wendy,

I thought Jhankaria Imaging in Mumbai has the ability to do Ferriscan?

Have they stopped?

Thanks

Hi Pratik and Poirot
Apologies for the delayed response. Unfortunately, Jhankaria Imaging is no longer validated for FerriScan, but we are just setting up some MRI centres to perform it, in collaboration with Novartis. At the moment, these are in Kolkata, with one in Assam.
However, we are visiting India in September - New Delhi and are keen to speak to key thalassaemia clinicians or patient society officials who can advise us of the best way to proceed in India. if you have any good contacts you could pass on to me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Wendy

Yes, there are only a few SQUID machines on earth. It is used to measure cardiac iron and is extremely accurate.

Hi Wendy,

Apologies for missing out your post earlier - did you make the trip to India in Sept? Any update on whether we are likely to see more centres in India with ferriscan validation? Covering the major cities would be a start.

Cheers
