Heart Problems and Angiogram / Angioplasty
« on: October 26, 2006, 10:59:34 AM »
Hi All.

I've been away from the site for a very long time and it feels so good to be back.  I was busy with school.  A few months ago I finished my Masters in Haematology and in summer 2007 will hopefully be starting a PhD programme, based on Haemopoietic stem cell technology.  Thanks to all those who supported me throughout and even to those who I don't normally chat to, you are always in my thoughts and in my prayers.

Anyway, as some of you know a few years back I had some cardiac complication and went into congestive heart failure.  I thought I made a full recovery from that, but last month I had an exercise stress test which showed some abnormalities in the beating of my heart at high pulse rates (above 120, 130).  After this, my cardiologist thinks that there may be some blockages in my arteries around or in my heart and has booked me in for an Angiogram.  He also said that if they do find some blockages, they may perform an angioplasty at that time also.

I'm not too worried to be honest because I really trust my cardiologist and he also specialises in Thalassaemia cardiac care and I have had surgery from him before, but I still do not know what to expect, mainly in terms of healing time and pain associated with this procedure.

If anybody else has had an angiogram or angiplasty, it would be good and reassuring to hear from you about your experiences.   Thanks

Wax.

Good to hear from you, sounds like you have been really busy. It is fantastic that you are in the hemotology field and will be specializing in stem cell technology. That is great news for all of us. Congrats on your Masters degree, as well. Hope everything goes well with your precedure - we'll all be with you in spirit.   Jean

Hi Wax!

It's great to see you back. I'd been wondering how you've been. Please keep us posted on the angiogram and whether you'll need any treatment. I know both are fairly routine procedures these days so all should go well.

Congratulations on getting your Masters. That's quite excellent.   :thumbsup  Your PHD program is a wonderful choice. We've had other thals wondering how far thals can go in education and  I think you're proof that the sky's the limit. Good luck in what will be a very interesting program.

Anyone here had an angioplasty? I hope you can give Wax some info. I met him back in my first group chat that Lisa invited me to along with Maako, Shaneez and Cicci and a couple others, and we've been friends ever since.  :biggrin
Andy

All we are saying is give thals a chance.
