Poirot,

You made the right choice - for so many reasons as you already know.  My father-in-law passed away a few months ago from cirrhosis of the liver that became HCC.  We contemplated transplant but then trusted that a resection would cure him.  We were wrong - and we wish so much that we had chosen transplant.

God bless you and your family, so glad that you are well

Thanks, Sharmin.

Sorry to hear about your loss - pls pass on my condolences to your husband, too.

I did so much research on my options re: liver cancer  - resection, SIR spheres, TACE, etc - but, given that this was cancer in a cirrhotic liver, every top specialist I spoke with was adamant that a liver transplant was my only option. It took a month for that to sink in before I started the process to get ready for a transplant. After that, I was really fortunate to get a transplant so quickly.

For persons with liver cancer/end-stage cirrhosis below the age of 65, I believe that a living donor transplant is a really viable option now - since this is easier if you have a blood group matched healthy donor - that's all it takes.

Thank you Poirot,

It has been very heart breaking and shocking for our family.  My husband and I are both born and raised in Canada - but our parents are immigrants of Indian decent.   They worked very very hard to educate us and to give us a good life.  It breaks our hearts that shortly after his retirement - when it was time to reap the benefits of his labour and watch grandchildren grow - this disease took him.

I am now a strong advocate of transplant for advanced HCC caused by cirrhosis.  God bless you with s long and healthy life.  I hope the cure will reach everyone everywhere in the near future.
