hello everyone,

If both parents are thal minors, are there any IVF or other genetic pre-screening techniques which can carefully screen out the sperm or egg and eliminate thalaseemia gene on the baby ?

Thank you!

Chorionic Villus Sampling can be done from weeks 10-13 of the pregnancy. This test can determine the thalassemia status of the fetus. Often a decision on whether or not to continue the pregnancy will be made based on the results.

Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, PGD, and IVF can be used to screen for thalassemia, and only thal-free eggs would be used in the IVF. This process can take a lot of time and may take several attempts to have a successful pregnancy, but the child would not carry thal.

Thank you Andy.
Could you suggest some good places for Pre-implantation/PGD/IVF which can help eliminate Thalassemia gene in the baby ?
Also, since the parents are >40 year old, maybe they can eliminate down syndrome chances also.

I wouldn't be able to advise where you can get IVF done. The doctor may be able to recommend a place.
