Naveed needs prayers !!!
Andy Battaglia:
Tariq,
You and your friends who have watched out for Naveed are thalpals in the truest sense. You may have missed most of the conference but you have done something far more important by helping Naveed stay alive.
In life you will have guypals and galpals but nothing beats the thalpals!
Andy Battaglia:
The nosebleeds indicate a chronic low platelet condition. If possible, have this info passed to the doctors to make sure they are aware of the various causes, as it may help to narrow down why Naveed has this ongoing problem. See
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/thrombocytopenia/DS00691/DSECTION=causes
--- Quote ---# Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a condition in which your immune system mistakenly identifies platelets as a threat and forms antibodies that attack them.
# Other autoimmune diseases, such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, which may lead to destruction of platelets due to a malfunctioning immune system.
# Blood poisoning from severe bacterial infections (bacteremia), which may lead to destruction of platelets.
# Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), a rare, life-threatening condition that occurs when small blood clots suddenly form throughout your body, using up large numbers of platelets. TTP sometimes happens as a result of a genetic deficiency, but more often the cause is unknown. In some cases, it may be associated with infection or a chronic illness.
# Hemolytic uremic syndrome, another rare disorder that causes a sharp drop in platelets, destruction of red blood cells and impairment of kidney function. Sometimes, this can occur in association with a bacterial Escherichia coli (E. coli) infection, such as may be acquired from eating raw or undercooked meat (often hamburger).
--- End quote ---
Investigation for bacterial and viral illness, along with any of the other possibilities should be done.
T @ r ! Q:
As far as I know his case, he immediately needs his spleenectomy done. But the continuous fever is making things complicated as doc suggested he should not go for spleen removal until fever settles down for couple of weeks, as that could also complicate things. Right now, he is getting frequent transfusions and low platelet counts and also his DFO was stopped by doc due to chronic infection symptoms. And also he is diabetic :( I am sure once spleenectomy is done, thing will get better for him. He is a pretty strong fellow with will power I haven't seen in many people. The way he stood up in the matter of hours from such critical condition is not easy.
Lets hope for the best
Tariq.

Umair
Fadd:
I heard about Naveed while i was chatting with Umair on MSN this evening. it was sad to hear. i also met both Tariq and Umair in the conference at PC Hotel, Lahore.
My prayers are with Naveed. Umer is with Naveed at the hospital and since Dr. Jovaria is looking after him, it is somewhat relaxing that he is in safe hands. she is a very nice and proficient doctor. But the unknown reason of this illness is alarming. I guess it might be due to enlarged sepleen or food poisoning.... The biggest issue they are facing at the moment is that they are new in Lahore and that is actually making problem in getting the blood arrangements since they don't know anyone around here. I sent a blood donation request to some of my friends and acquaintances here in lahore. hope that they contact Umer (Naveed's friend) soon.
May Allah bless him health soon.
Fouad
