6 weeks pregnant is baby at risk?

Hi Everyone! I'm new at this site.  I discovered it last night while I was researching information on thalassemia beta.  I posted a question but not sure if it was in the right location.  I recently found out I was pregnant, I'm about six weeks.  My husband has thalassemia minor and I was recently told I also was a carrier.

My results are as follows: RBC 4.46, Hemoglobin 13.5, Hematocrit 39.9, MV 89.6, MCH 30.2 RDW 14.6, Hemoglobin A 96.0L (which came back is being out of range), Hemoglobin F <1.0 and hemoglobin A2 3.0.

My doctor told me I was a carrier even though my results appear to be in normal range.  A very helpful member on this site helped me have a better understanding.

I was wondering if anyone else understand my lab results and could explain if in fact I am a thal carrier.  My concern is could it be passed on to my child.  I have an appointment to see a genetics counselor next week but I'm very panicked about this.

Any information would be very appreciated.

Thank you!

I'm not the right person to help you, so lets what for a real smart person.

Congrats with your pregnancy!! Do you take folic acid? If no, starts now! You should take 2.5mg daily.

Hang in there,

Dore

Hi Melanie

Till Now whatever I have read is that HBA2 would be high (more than 3.5) in case of Thal Minor but that is 3 in your case .In my case it was 6 .
